Selina Robinson debates Bill 28, the Miscellaneous Statutes (Housing Priority Initiatives) Amendment Act, 2016 and speaks about the lack of affordable housing and its impact on her constituents of Coquitlam-Maillardville.
This piece of legislation does the following:
- introduces a 15% property transfer tax for foreign nationals who purchase property in Metro Vancouver
- creates a provincial housing and rental program fund with an initial $75 million investment
- ends real-estate industry self-regulation, and
- amends the Vancouver Charter to give the city legal authority to implement a vacancy tax
